One of a kind, 43 Spindrift Centercockpit,Hull Number One

Windcastle is the best equipped and best prepared offshore yacht

I have ever seen.”(1)

This 1980 sailing vessel is a rugged yet elegant fiberglass offshore Cruiser. “ (2)

Ideal for the experienced cruising couple wishing to step up to a fully equipped double-ender offshore cruiser. This classic, very seaworthy vessel has many proven (and perhaps complex) features, which can only be appreciated by an experienced cruiser. To begin with, one must look at the history of the vessel -- Spindrift Yachts hull number one, originally ordered and set into production as the personal vessel for Tony Bell and his lady partner both of whom were experienced cruisers. As construction of their vessel progressed, Mr. Bell realized the business opportunity to have additional hulls produced in Taiwan with their rigging and interiors installed and commissioned in Newport Beach, California.  This was the beginning of Spindrift Yachts, a California based company which went on to produce many more sailboats and powerboats

Spindrift had its company debut at the 1981 Annual Newport Beach Boat Show, where Doug Nash first saw Spindrift's number one vessel. As an experienced seaman, he immediately recognized the superior workmanship and features of Hull number one versus the other hulls available then and those that would follow. This boat was clearly company owner Bell's dream boat, and none of Spindrift's “production” boats would ever match the quality details, equipment and workmanship of hull number one.

Doug Nash, a retired NASA Scientist and very experienced yachtsman, took possession of the vessel in April of 1982 and has continually maintained, outfitted and upgraded Windcastle for comfort, convenience and nearly every possible contingency while cruising worldwide.

"The interior of the boat is in excellent cosmetic condition throughout. Teak wood trim is liberally used, all beautifully finished.” (2)

This one-owner, center-cockpit cutter with its 266-gallon fuel capacity has an engine range of over 2000 miles. Windcastle has logged over 35,000 miles of Pacific cruising and has thereby proven its rugged, comfortable and safe capabilities. She has lovingly and successfully cruised the Pacific from California to Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and the entire West Coast USA and Mexico, Central America, Panama, and Las Perlas islands. Then offshore passages westward to Galapagos,  Marquesas, Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Cooks, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, then northward to Fiji, Vanuatu, and New  Caledonia, and back to NZ. After more refits and upgrades, passages north to Tonga, and on to Pago Pago, and to Honolulu.

For personal reasons -- after 30 years owning and cruising on Windcastle -- Doug Nash, the original and current owner -- has recently decided it's time to stop cruising.  His boat Windcastle is for sale in Hawaii (Honolulu), and is ideally located to jump start a new owner's sailing adventures in the South Pacific and beyond.
